one of those days

you know those days, when you realize that staying in bed like you wanted would've been the BEST IDEA EVER because of all the crap you've had to go through? Well, today was one of those days.

First, my body woke up at 445am. And refused to go back to sleep. "Nope, it's time to be awake!" it taunted me. So I mucked about on Facebook for a bit, then watched some tv before the alarm went off at 630.

I invigilated exams from 8 to 11, and it's sheer luck that i didn't slip and fall on my way over there (10-15 min walk), given that it snowed again last night.

Then I had a big surprise when I went to sign my new contract - it's only through June 2, not June 30 like I had been led to believe. Ooops! There's a strong chance it'll be renewed through the summer, but there's also a small chance that i'll be begging on the streets for a few months (also known as going to my local unemployment office!)

I talked to a website client this afternoon for over an hour, and let's just say that we don't see eye-to-eye. She apparently thinks she owns me, when in fact she paid less than a quarter of what her website is actually worth. Let's think about that one for a second, ok? So you can imagine how frustrating it was to listen to her tell me that the registration on her website (required by her lawyer who wrote the terms and conditions of sale) has too many fields to fill out ... "Name, address, zip code, town, telephone number [pause] That's too many!"

The cherry on the cake was when Kim came home from uni. "oooh, i have a package for you!" she exclaimed as she walked in the door. That's right, I had forgotten to check the mailbox on my way in earlier. It was my birthday/christmas present from Marie-Laure and Charles except ... the box was severely damaged. And taped to it was a little note from the Clermont Post Office saying, "it wasn't us, we got it like this, we swear." I thought that maybe it would be ok and ... it wasn't. Two of the four mini cocotte were broken, so now I have to go back to the post office and harass them into sending it back to Amazon.

It was one of those days when I just about broke down in tears. Hopefully tomorrow will be better (although I'm dreading it already, since I have to go deal with the Post Office jerks who'll blame it on me or on Amazon or something.)

I'm a 28-year-old American who has been living in France since September of 2003. I became a naturalized French citizen on April 21, 2009.

I teach English at one of the universities in Clermont-Ferrand, and I'm doing a doctorate in American civilization and history at the Université Lumière Lyon II in Lyon, France.

I also own and run a small website design company based in the United States. I'm slowly adding French clients as well.
