the start of another bad day

19h38filed under [ food photos problems teaching ]I was hoping that today would be the start of a really good week, but it turned out to be another bad day.
I woke up a little after 7 this morning, and lazed around in bed for a while. My meeting in Thiers had been canceled because of all the snow we got over the weekend, so I didn't have anywhere to be until 2pm. I finally got out of bed and showered after 9, and was making my morning tea and about to eat a breakfast cookie when my cell phone rang.
Turns out I was supposed to be at the university giving exams (to cover for a colleague of mine), except that she forgot to tell me the exact date. I vaguely remember her asking me if I could cover the exams for her, and I told her either Jan 11 or Jan 12. I never heard back from her to confirm, so I never put it on my agenda.
I left home as fast as i could, grabbing the container of cookies to bring with me. When I got to uni, nothing was ready, so I explained what was happening to the students (luckily they understood) and I ran around trying to get the photocopies of the exam subject (oral comprehension AND speaking) and then the CD with the listenings ready.
I ended up spending ALL DAY - from 10:30am to 4:30pm - at the university to give 16 oral exams. That's a long day, especially when I hadn't been planning on it. The most frustrating part is that I had planned to work on my thesis this morning!
And then I saw another colleague, who essentially told me that I don't have much of a future at this particular university, unless I accept a position earning less and working double or unless another colleague gets promoted (in which case I can slip into her position). Either way, that's frustrating, because I've been working my butt off for 6+ years only to be shown the door. Maybe I'll just be unemployed next year, to give me the time to work on (and finish?) my thesis ...
But it hasn't been all bad news. Last week, as you might remember, a gift was delivered broken, and i had to deal with sending it back. Well, its replacement arrived today, in one piece, and I can't wait to try them out!!
