hamburgers in Paris

Given my newly discovered love of cooking, I've recently started reading a number of different food blogs. I came across David Leibowitz, an American pastry chef who lives in Paris and writes about all things French, and he suggested a hamburger restaurant in the 1e called Scoop.

As you'll probably remember, Damien and I like to make our own hamburgers, and we've had a number of delicious hamburgers over the past year or two. My favorite place in Paris for hamburgers is Breakfast in America, an American diner (with two locations, in the 4e and 5e - we always go to the one in the 5e). But I suggested we try the food at Scoop, for a change.

And I have to tell you, we were pretty disappointed. 14,50E for a bacon cheeseburger?! It was slightly overcooked, the cheese didn't have much flavor, and I could've found twice as good for half the price in the US. It was served with roasted potatoes (which were totally unsalted, blech) and the greasiest salad I've ever eaten. After we finished the salad, there was still a puddle of oil/vinegar on the plate. I like dressing as much as the next person, but a little bit goes a long way!

With our diet cokes, the total bill came to 36E. Next time we crave hamburgers in Paris, we're headed back to Breakfast in America ... or maybe we'll just save our money and make them at home!

I'm a 28-year-old American who has been living in France since September of 2003. I became a naturalized French citizen on April 21, 2009.

I teach English at one of the universities in Clermont-Ferrand, and I'm doing a doctorate in American civilization and history at the Université Lumière Lyon II in Lyon, France.

I also own and run a small website design company based in the United States. I'm slowly adding French clients as well.
