like a 4-star hotel

One of the ways you can judge a hotel is by the quality of its toilet paper. Yes, toilet paper. We all use it, but nobody really talks about it. There's really no reason to talk about it. But hey, to lighten things up around here, let's talk about toilet paper a little bit.

Whenever I check in to a hotel, I assess the quality of the toilet paper. Our hotel in London? One-ply, dry, not-so-great toilet paper. Our resort in Edenbridge? Two- or three-ply, soft, and comfortable toilet paper. Our resort was WAY NICER then our hotel in London, of course.

I mention this because there has been an evolution here in Saint-Denis over the past year or so. I don't know when it happened, but we now have the fancy-schmancy toilet paper. In Clermont, I usually buy the cheap stuff myself, but Damien and Marie-Laure have decided to switch to the nicer stuff. And I'm the one who benefits the most from it, since I'm here all day long.

My parents know about my love of high-quality toilet paper and always bring out the cottonelle when I go back to visit. I can't wait to see what they have when I head home on Friday.

And maybe in the future, when my career is more stable, I'll be able to afford my own high-quality toilet paper!

I'm a 28-year-old American who has been living in France since September of 2003. I became a naturalized French citizen on April 21, 2009.

I teach English at one of the universities in Clermont-Ferrand, and I'm doing a doctorate in American civilization and history at the Université Lumière Lyon II in Lyon, France.

I also own and run a small website design company based in the United States. I'm slowly adding French clients as well.
