some good news about my future ...

2h15filed under [ blogging/thesis depression relationships teaching ]hello Internet friends, long time no see. You'll be happy to hear that I'm definitely feeling more like myself, although i'm not 100% there yet. Whenever I hit one of these "difficult periods", I always know that it will get better, but it's hard to get out of bed just to struggle day after day. Thanks to all of you who contacted me and supported me ... it's always easier when I know that I am loved by so many wonderful people!
The good news (which I thought I posted on here, but apparently didn't) is that I passed the written part of the exam (called the "CAPES interne") to become a teacher in France, and I just got the date for my oral exam yesterday. I have a meeting on Monday, April 26, and then my exam will be 4 hours or so on Tuesday, April 27. So in two weeks, this whole ordeal will be over, and hopefully I'll have become a certified teacher!
I found this out last Wednesday, but I didn't really start studying until I came home yesterday and found out that my oral exam is at the beginning of the week, which means only two weeks to study! Luckily, the oral exam counts for 2/3rds of the final grade (the written exam is the other 1/3rd), and part of the oral exam is the quality of your English! Anyway, wish me luck. Two weeks of hardcore studying, and then hopefully I'll have a job for life. The same job that Damien has!
In preparation for my oral exam in a few weeks, I decided that i should update my look. I hadn't had a haircut in quite a while, and my highlights were starting to grow out. So I headed to the hairdressers (Guerance on rue St Esprit), and I got my favorite girl. I studied while she put the highlights in, and then I showed her pictures of a haircut I had about 2 years ago. She did a WONDERFUL job - it's perfect! And to top it off, she only charged me for highlights on short hair (as opposed to last november, when the woman charged me for highlights on long hair, not because i have long hair but because i have A LOT of hair, which doesn't seem fair). She did such a great job that I actually tipped her 2E, the first time I've ever tipped a hairstylist in France.
I'm headed to Paris tomorrow afternoon to attend a talk on Thursday about the Internet and Democracy, and Damien and I will drive back to Auvergne together this weekend.
